چکیده
Cartilage material properties are important for understanding joint function and diseases, but can be challenging to obtain. Three biphasic material properties (aggregate modulus, Poisson's ratio and permeability) can be determined using an analytical or finite element model combined with optimisation to find the material properties values that best reproduce an experimental creep curve. The purpose of this study was to develop an easy-to-use resource to determine biphasic cartilage material properties. A Cartilage Interpolant Response Surface was generated from interpolation of finite element simulations of creep indentation tests. Creep indentation tests were performed on five sites across a tibial plateau. A least-squares residual search of the Cartilage Interpolant Response Surface resulted in a best-fit curve for each experimental condition with corresponding material properties. These sites provided a representative range of aggregate moduli (0.48-1.58 MPa), Poisson's ratio (0.00-0.05) and permeability (1.7 x 10(- 15)-5.4 x 10(- 15) m(4)/N s) values found in human cartilage. HIERARCHICAL COMPUTATION OF HERMITE SPHERICAL INTERPOLANT
In this paper, we propose to extend the hierarchical bivariateHermite Interpolant to the spherical case. Let $T$ be an arbitraryspherical triangle of the unit sphere $S$ and let $u$ be a functiondefined over the triangle $T$. For $kin mathbb{N}$, we consider aHermite spherical Interpolant problem $H_k$ defined by some datascheme $mathcal{D}_k(u)$ and which admits a unique solution $p_k$in the ...
متن کاملNUMERICAL MODELING OF CHARRING MATERIAL ABLATION WITH CONSIDERING CHEMICAL REACTION, MASS TRANSFER AND SURFACE HEAT TRANSFER EFFECTS
Presently there is a little information that relates to heat shield systems. Also this information is not certain in so many cases. The main reason is that accurate calculations for measuring the sacrificing rate of various materials have not been obtained yet. Additionally, the real scale test has two disadvantages: high cost and low flexibility, and for each case we must perform a new test...
متن کاملValidation of Articular Cartilage Tensile Moduli from Transversely Isotropic Biphasic Indentation Fem Analysis
Indentation testing has frequently been used as a method to obtain the material properties of articular cartilage in compression [1]. To account for the wellestablished anisotropic nature of cartilage [2] previous studies have modeled the cartilage as a transversely isotropic biphasic material using optimized FEM curvefitting techniques to obtain the material properties of the tissue in compres...
متن کاملInjectable Cartilage Shaving: An Autologous and Long Lasting Filler Material for Correction of Minor Contour Deformities in Rhinoplasty
BACKGROUND Filler materials are gaining popularity in nonsurgical rhinoplasty the major advantages are the ability to camouflage the surface deformities, and also the soft and malleable consistency while the major drawback of the safe fillers such as hyaluronic acid is short durability. In this study, we evaluated the injectable cartilage shaving as an autologous filler material for correction...
متن کاملA viscoelastic constitutive model can accurately represent entire creep indentation tests of human patella cartilage.
Cartilage material properties provide important insights into joint health, and cartilage material models are used in whole-joint finite element models. Although the biphasic model representing experimental creep indentation tests is commonly used to characterize cartilage, cartilage short-term response to loading is generally not characterized using the biphasic model. The purpose of this stud...
